Step One: Installing the Evaporator unit

1)

To begin installing an in-dash a/c unit, you must first remove the old heater system. The firewall must be clear of all the old heater system. The glove box should be removed for better accessibility.

2)

If there is a hole in the firewall that was used for the old heating system it must be blocked off. Abs plastic or metal can be used to do this.

3)

Insulate the firewall to stop the transfer of heat through the firewall.

4)

When installing the evaporator unit the key factors to remember are the drains. On some units the drains will point down, and on others the drains will point straight out the back. If the unit is installed improperly water may not drain properly, causing water to exit through the vents. See the pictures below for drain references.

fig 1.1

5)

Please note the differences in the pictures. Both of these units have two drain outlets. If you have a unit with one drain outlet it will point down as in figure 1.2. We do offer drain Tee's and elbows to allow one drain tube through the floor. These parts are not included with the kits

6)

Once the unit is ready for installation attach the included "L" brackets to each side of the unit leave all the bolts loose. Place the unit with the brackets attached to into its final mounting position and mark the area where the self-tapping screws will go through the firewall. Remove the brackets and mount the brackets. Don't hang the unit yet; first the hoses must be routed in order exit the firewall without kinking. The a/c and heater lines (if the system is heat and air) can exit anywhere you choose. Please use the included grommets to protect the hoses from damage.

7)

After the unit is in place and ready to mount attach the Expansion valve. The expansion valve will mount to the smaller tube on the evaporator unit. If the valve is already attached disregard this step.

8)

The expansion valve will require a # 8 O-ring when connecting it to the evaporator. The bulb on the valve will attach to the large tube on the evaporator, see pictures for details. There will be a "C" clip in the package to attach the bulb.

9)

After the expansion valve bulb and "C" clip are attached place some black insulation tape over the tubes and expansion valve. Do not cover the threads or hex area of the tube. More tape will be needed later to cover all the connections and fittings.

10)

After the unit is ready to install, and the a/c hoses are attached (step six) the unit can be mounted for the final time. Be sure to cover the fittings with the extra black insulating tape after the hoses are attached.

11)

The vents and duct hose can be attached to the unit after it is mounted and the hoses are attached. Prior to attaching the duct hose and vents hook up the controls up.
